THE COMMISSION/ PURPOSE OF THE CHURCH

  • *We are a member church of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.

The mission of the church actually becomes her "reason for being" here on earth. We as the church are to be a Redeemed Fellowship as well as a Redeeming Fellowship. The church's mission is therefore to proclaim the gospel and practice the Lordship of Christ. We are to fulfill the Lord's Commission "to go into all the world and preach the gospel". We are to proclaim and hold to the authority of the Word of God; church membership regenerated by the Holy Spirit; the covenant of believers; the need for a continual renewal of the church; the necessity of separation from the world; the message and service to the world; the ministry of worship, teaching, fellowship; training for Christian service. All this brings us back to first principles of the faith of Jesus Christ, and forward into a world which, without the Good News, will perish. Herein lies our task.

CONFESSION OF FAITH

  • 1. The Bible

We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible and accept the books of the Old and New Testaments in their entirety as they were originally written and compiled in the canon of scripture as the authoritative Word of God, without error in all that it affirms. Therefore, the Bible is the only infallible rule of faith and practice as it is interpreted according to it's context and purpose under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

  • 2. God the Father

We believe in God the Father Almighty, first person of the trinity, who together with the Son and Holy Spirit created the world by His word and for His glory. God the Father is a spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, perfect in love, and righteous in all His ways.

  • 3. Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, the second person of the trinity, as being of one substance and equal with the Father. We believe He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and shared our humanity in a sinless life of obedience. We believe in His death for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven where he is at God's right hand interceding for His people. We believe in His personal, visible, and glorious second coming, the time being unrevealed but always imminent. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord of our lives and of our church.

  • 4. The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the trinity, who is one substance with and proceeds from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin and righteousness and judgement, and to regenerate and sanctify all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer and gives gifts to each believer so that the Body of Christ may be enriched and built up.

  • 5. Man

We believe that man was created by a special act of God after His own image, in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, the crown of all creation, that man might have fellowship with God. Being estranged from his creator, man became subject to divine wrath, inwardly depraved and, apart from divine grace, incapable of returning to God.

  • 6. Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace; it is a free gift of God, not by any virtue or works of man. It is for all who have repented of their sins and who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour by an act of their wills.

  • 7. The Church

We believe the church to be the body of all believers in Jesus Christ. We believe that God, by His Word and Spirit, is calling sinful men out of the whole human race into the fellowship of Christ's Body. We believe the local church is the community of God's people who meet together under the lordship of Christ for worship, ministry of the Word, fellowship and evangelism. We affirm that we are an autonomous congregation of baptized believers but we recognize our responsibility to cooperate with the church of Jesus Christ to take the whole gospel to the whole world. We also believe we have a responsibility to relieve human suffering and need.

  • 8. The Ordinances

We believe two scriptural ordinances given to the local church are baptism by immersion of believers and the Lord's Supper as a memorial communion for the redeemed.

  • 9. Man's Final Destiny

We believe that Christ will return to raise the dead, to judge all men according to the deeds done in the body and to establish His glorious kingdom. The wicked shall be separated from God's presence to their eternal punishment, but the righteous, in glorious bodies, shall live and reign with Him forever. We look forward to that day and to the new heaven and new earth in which righteousness will dwell and God will reign forever. Description goes here

  • 10. Sexual Relationships

We believe that the Bible clearly teaches that sexual relationships are only to be practiced within a monogamous heterosexual marriage. (Genesis 1:27-28; Romans 1:18-32)
